Inclusive and Sustainable Employment Opportunities

Over the past four decades, U.S. job stability has decreased, and income inequality has increased as economic globalization policies have promoted “free trade,” including reductions in government spending on public services and deregulation of occupational and environmental health and financial sectors. These policies have led to an increasing income gap, a decline in decent work, and an increase in economic migration. Privatization, downsizing, restructuring, and a lower prevalence of unionized workers have been associated with increases in precariousness, job insecurity, time pressure, workload, low job control, and low workplace support, especially in the presence of an inadequate social safety net among vulnerable workers.
